How It Works?
The Atkins approach to dieting revolves around a "take charge" attitude. Their weight loss program primarily consists of 4 phases:
Phase 1: Induction
- The initial phase of the Atkins diet lasts 14 days. You can start at any of the four phases but induction will help you see rapid weight loss quicker.
- Leafy greens and other non-starchy vegetables are the primary source of carbs. Only 20 grams of net carbs are allowed in this phase.
Phase 2: On-Going Weight Loss (OWL)
- Gradual addition of nutrient-rich carbs; to continue losing weight high carbs such as bread and rice are not recommended.
- 25 Net carbs allowed daily. Able to mix and match nutritious foods to tailor to your own weight loss routine.
Phase 3: Maintenance
In this dieting phase, you can increase your carb intake by 10 more grams of net carbs per week as long as you continue to lose the remaining pounds of your desired weight target. Atkins diet experts suggest continuing this phase until you reach your optimal weight and maintain your goal weight for one month. Convenient nutritious Atkins products are offered to reduce your cravings.
Phase 4: Lifetime Maintenance
In this phase you are supposed to continue with the eating plan that has brought you here thus far. You should notice your energy, health and confidence grow considerably at this time. Most dieters that reach Phase 4 feel like they have taken charge of their life and changed their lifestyle for the better. On going weight management classes and active discussion groups will help you to continue living out your new you!
