Why is the Glycemic Index diet so popular?

April 7, 2008 – 5:49 am

The Glycemic Index diet is popular due to the following benefits. The risk of general obesity, diabetes and heart disease is decreased greatly by following this diet. The person experiences raised energy and improved metabolism. There is weight loss along with GI diet. This diet avoids overeating and decreases hunger pains. The diet can control or moderate blood sugar and insulin levels. This is a sensible approach to the carbohydrate debate.

Athletes
Glycemic Index diet is popular among endurance athletes like ultra-marathoners and Ironman triathletes. Before a competition, athletes eat foods having a lower GI value. Due to this energy is released very slowly. During the competition, athletes maintain a balance between high and low glycemic index foods. This result in maintenance of constant energy levels and minimization of energy spent.

Managing weight
Research has proved that high levels of GI carbohydrate are linked with greater possibility of obesity. Due to high Glycemic Index diet, the post meal glycemia and insulin levels are higher. Also, plasma triglycerides are three times more. There is sufficient proof that consuming high glycemic index carbohydrate for a long period results in severe metabolic irregularities.

Managing disease
People who stick to a low GI diet for a long span of time had considerably less risk of getting type 2 diabetes or coronary heart disease. High levels of blood glucose or continuous “glycemic spikes” after meals results in promotion of these diseases due to increase in the insulin levels and raised oxidative damage to the vasculature. As per recent studies, postprandial hyperglycemia indicates more risk of atherosclerosis within the non-diabetic group. In Asia and Peru, people consume high glycemic index foods like rice and potatoes. However, they are not affected by diabetes or high obesity. This happens as consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables in Asia and legumes in South America lower the glycemic values in these people.

Weight Loss Tips for women who just gave birth

March 18, 2008 – 5:30 am

Women are these days extremely conscious of their looks and want to look slim and attractive. The average weight gain during pregnancy is between 25 to 35 pounds and after the baby’s birth the mother loses about 12 to 14 pounds which leaves her with an additional weight of 12 to 20 pounds to be lost. Many women regain their pre pregnancy figure within 8 to 12 months. The key to losing weight post pregnancy is to follow the correct diet and exercise pattern for effective weight loss. It would be recommended that you do not rush out and start dieting immediately after the baby’s birth as the body has to recover and the baby is dependent on the mother for the breast milk. Instead for the first three months after the birth you need to concentrate on eating healthy and develop your own exercise pattern.

Once the body has recovered and your period has returned to normal you can start following a healthy, low fat weight loss plan. It is better not to rush about losing weight and follow a regular diet and exercise pattern which is not too traumatic and extensive. Regular walking, swimming, yoga could be the kind of exercises to be followed. The diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables but low in fat and oil so as to provide the necessary nutrients at the same time keeping the calorie count as low as possible. Stomach exercises and crunches are recommended only after three months especially if you have had a caesarian operation. Stomach crunches are effective in losing weight around the belly, which tends to store fat post pregnancy. One could start with 5-10 crunches per day and slowly increase them by five per day.

Healthy Soy Diet Plan

March 9, 2008 – 5:23 am

eDiets Healthy Soy Diet plan is well-known online diet program. The diet plan features a customized diet program which is planned by keeping the tastes of everyone in mind. The diet plan features various menus and recipes as well.

The eDiets Healthy Soy Diet plan is a very popular diet plan due to its convenience and flexibility. It is an approach of eating a balanced diet in order to provide the dieter with one snack and three meals every day. Using all familiar favorites, it hardly feels like a diet and it never feels like a cut back. Thus, it makes it easy to follow this diet. This diet helps to teach lifelong eating habits which are based on moderation and portion sizes. The eDiets Healthy Soy Diet plan mainly emphasizes that Soy came a long way from the 60s when mung beans and tofu were very much in rage. One now finds this Soy protein in almost everything from Soy milk to the veggie burgers. Thus, it has not remained for the hippies anymore.

In order to stay healthy, our body requires various nutrients along with protein, which is found in meat and fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes and nuts. Proteins are required by the body in order to build and repair body tissue. Protein is also necessary for a healthy immune system and red blood cells formation. That is why protein ranks high up on the food pyramid. There are many sources of quality protein which are generally high in fats. The solution to it is an intake of soy. Soy comes from soybean and after processing it becomes bland and tasteless. It takes the taste of anything that you cook along with it. It is available in all forms, thus it can be easily consumed. eDiets Healthy Soy Diet plan is suitable for all.
